A pet crow named Shit Turd fights to save humanity from the apocalypse. That’s the book. The creativity and originality is outstanding in this book and I’m not sure I’ve ever read a book quite like it. The hilarious quips from S.T. kept me laughing throughout and you really form attachments with the animals in the book.

Sancia Grado is a thief, and a damn good one. And her latest target, a heavily guarded warehouse on Tevanne’s docks, is nothing her unique abilities can’t handle. But unbeknownst to her, Sancia’s been sent to steal an artifact of unimaginable power, an object that could revolutionize the magical technology known as scriving. The Merchant Houses who control this magic--the art of using coded commands to imbue everyday objects with sentience--have already used it to transform Tevanne into a vast, remorseless capitalist machine. But if they can unlock the artifact’s secrets, they will rewrite the world itself to suit their aims. This is the first in a new series of books and is one of my favorites because of the interesting magic system they build. Has a good sense of humor with a few slightly darker themes since Sancia’s ability to interact with the world comes from a human experiment to scrive humans when she was a slave.

This is a story of vengeance. A young girl from a noble samurai family hires a down and out ronin to help her get revenge against the men who murdered her entire family in front of her. This outcast from polite samurai society has a secret that makes him seemingly invincible as he follows her on her path of blood. This story is a beautifully drawn look at human mortality and the harsh evils of revenge.

My favorite manga. An epic read that tells the story of a man who has demons and monsters drawn to him because of a curse. Has a really well written antagonist and the art is beautiful. Please let people know who are interested in this book, that it is very graphic and has detailed depictions of SA, gore, and violence in almost every chapter.

A psychological horror manga about a boy dealing with the trauma of watching his mother push his cousin off a cliff. This manga always has me on the edge of my seat. The art is haunting, and the son and mother’s relationship is terrifying and compelling.

A virgin man turns 30 and suddenly realizes he can read people’s minds and finds out that his colleague at work has a major crush on him. It’s a silly premise, but it’s incredibly wholesome. I love it since it doesn’t include some of the toxic tropes that are common in BL manga and it’s just a very fun story.

A romance manga that follows an otaku (Japanese word for someone who like anime/manga. A nerd) woman and her friends and boyfriend that work in the same office and are also otaku. I like it because it has the fun hijinks of a high school romance manga, but it’s about adults which makes it relatable.

This is a tale of three sisters, all a part of the suffragist movement, finding the words and tradition to bring back witching and the bond between them. I adore that this novel is one like no other I’ve read recently. It’s a blend of alternative history, folklore, and fairy tale that is bound together by a theme of women’s rights and women’s empowerment.

This book analyzes female monsters from Greek mythology and invites women to reclaim these stories and find inspiration in them for a more “monstrous” brand of feminism. It’s incredibly well written and the think pieces on how classic stories relate to modern feminist issues is fascintating.

The best way I can sum this book up is that it’s about 4 siblings who go to a fortune teller when they are young to find out when they’ll die. The rest of the book explores the question “How would you live your life if you knew the date of your death?” I enjoy that this book presents complex questions about life and how we live it while maintaining the coming-of-age story it set out to be.

This is a retelling of the story of Achilles through the eyes of Patroclus, his lover. This book absolutely murdered me. When I die, bury me with this book. Everything about this book is perfect, from the way Miller’s prose feels incredibly fitting for the time period to the beautiful love story between Patroclus and Achilles.

Alice Isn't Dead: A Novel Cover Image

Alice Isn’t Dead is a fast paced thriller about a truck driver searching across the country for the wife she had presumed to be dead. This book was written after the podcast of the same name finished to allow fans to read the story and revisit the world with some slight alterations. It’s a fantastic queer story where the lead gets to go on a mystery/horror road trip and doesn’t have to deal with any of the usual real life stuff.
