Deep Vents

$34.99
SKU: 051497134532

2–4 Players, 40–60 Minutes, Age: 13+

Along cracks in the ocean floor, plumes of black and white superheated water pump relentlessly into the depths. They provide precious heat to the near freezing abyssal waters of the deep as well as a bounty of minerals. Microscopic archaea and other extremophiles live off the heat and minerals to form the base of a unique food chain that hosts a variety of exotic deep sea creatures.

In Deep Vents, players each control their own hydrothermal ecosystem to which they add new life and geological features each turn, competing to survive in the unforgiving depths by being efficient and preying on nearby systems with a host of strange and deadly predators.

Start each turn by drafting a tile from the five on display — placing one archaeon, the currency of the game — on each tile you skip. Place this tile adjacent to each other tile in your ecosystem, then either grow or trigger each tile in your ecosystem, moving through them from top to bottom, left to right, and growing or triggering them individually as you like. When you grow a tile, you place archaea on it, whether a set amount or a varying number depending on other tiles in your ecosystem; when you trigger a tile, you remove archaea from it to carry out its unique effect: attacking opponents, gaining shells to defend against attacks, moving archaea to your personal supply, and decimating tiles, which leaves them as nothing but a heat source for the remainder of the game.

If you ever need to discard archaea due to an attack and cannot do so, you must take a shortfall token and ten archaea, then discard archaea as needed. On your turn, you can pay ten archaea to remove a shortfall token — which you want to do because as long as you have one, you can draft only the first tile on display. If you end your turn with two shortfall tokens, you're out of the game.

The game ends if only one player remains in play (with that player winning) or after eight rounds, with players scoring points for archaea and shells in reserve and archaea on tiles. In this case, whoever has the highest score wins.

Banana Split Card Game

$16.99
SKU: BAS130

2–4 Players, 30 Minutes, Age: 6+

In Banana Split, you want to complete as many ice cream orders as can, especially the valuable banana splits! To set up the game, shuffle the ice cream order deck, then reveal four cards. Shuffle the ingredient deck, and deal each player five cards, which they place behind their screens. On a turn, a player can:

  • Draw one card from the ingredient deck.
  • Take one ice cream order and play ingredients on it.
  • Add one or more ingredient cards to an order already in front of you.

When you play ingredients on an order, you must play exactly as many as are on the card and in the order listed, from top to bottom. When you play the final ingredient on an order, place that card aside as you'll score its point value at the end of the game. Banana split orders can't be built upon turn by turn, but must be claimed all in one go, either by playing all four ingredients at the same time or discarding one wild card ingredient. Special ingredient cards let you steal an ice cream order in progress or take an extra turn.

Once all the ice cream orders have been fulfilled, players tally their scores to see who wins.

Woolfy

$39.99
SKU: 3070900084278

1–4 Players, 20 Minutes, Age: 4+

This game basically re-enacts the tale of the three little pigs. Players cooperate in building the brick house and avoiding the wolf until they are all safe inside the brick house.

Play is basic roll-and-move, with each pig having a die of its own color. Die results are either move 1, 2, or 3 spaces (in either direction), or move the wolf, or run away to one of the three houses.

The wolf moves clockwise in jumps that can sweep up any piggies he lands on or passes. Pigs that are caught are put in the cook pot. The other little pigs can rescue pigs in the pot if they land on one of the cauldron spaces and roll a die successfully.

Pigs are safe when they are in a house.

At the beginning of the game, the brick house is not yet built. It has four pieces. When a pig lands on the brick house space, he or she can add one piece to the house. Once the brick house is completed, the pigs can occupy it. Once all three pigs are in the brick house, they win. If the wolf captures all three pigs, however, they lose.

Ticket To Ride: First Journey Europe

$34.99
SKU: 824968200278

2–4 Players, 15–30 Minutes, Age: 6+

Ticket to Ride: First Journey takes the gameplay of the Ticket to Ride series and scales it down for a younger audience.

In general, players collect train cards, claim routes on the map, and try to connect the cities shown on their tickets. In more detail, the game board shows a map of Europe with certain cities being connect by colored paths. Each player starts with four colored train cards in hand and two tickets; each ticket shows two cities, and you're trying to connect those two cities with a contiguous path of your trains in order to complete the ticket.

On a turn, you either draw two train cards from the deck or discard train cards to claim a route between two cities; for this latter option, you must discard cards matching the color and number of spaces on that route (e.g., two yellow cards for a yellow route that's two spaces long). If you connect the two cities shown on a ticket with a path of your trains, reveal the ticket, place it face up in front of you, then draw a new ticket. (If you can't connect cities on either ticket because the paths are blocked, you can take your entire turn to discard those tickets and draw two new ones.) If you connect one of the westernmost cities (Dublin, Brest, Madrid) to one of the easternmost cities (Moscow, Rostov, Ankara) with a path of your turns, you immediately claim a special cross-continent ticket.

The first player to complete six tickets wins! Alternatively, if someone has placed all twenty of their trains on the game board, then whoever has completed the most tickets wins!

Ticket to Ride: First Journey features the same gameplay as the first Ticket to Ride: First Journey game, but with the players claiming track in Europe instead of in the United States.

$49.99
SKU: 644216610563

1–4 Players, 30–120 Minutes, Age: 14+

Gloomhaven: Jaws of the Lion is a standalone game that takes place before the events of Gloomhaven. The game includes four new characters — Valrath Red Guard (tank, crowd control), Inox Hatchet (ranged damage), Human Voidwarden (support, mind-control), and Quatryl Demolitionist (melee damage, obstacle manipulation) — that can also be used in the original Gloomhaven game.

The game also includes 16 monster types (including seven new standard monsters and three new bosses) and a new campaign with 25 scenarios that invites the heroes to investigate a case of mysterious disappearances within the city. Is it the work of Vermlings, or is something far more sinister going on?

Gloomhaven: Jaws of the Lion is aimed at a more casual audience to get people into the gameplay more quickly. All of the hard-to-organize cardboard map tiles have been removed, and instead players will play on the scenario book itself, which features new artwork unique to each scenario. The last barrier to entry — i.e., learning the game — has also been lowered through a simplified rule set and a five-scenario tutorial that will ease new players into the experience.
